A bite to eat, and some shopping amidst the bustle of Namdaemun market.
The market is legendary, but after an initial appetizer of steamed red bean filled buns, the highlight was the $12 meal prepared as we watched. Yes, a yard and a half of bowls stretched between us, $12. Perched at the barest of counters, knuckles brushing the fixings and recycled water bottles filled with barley tea. Bibimbop and udon noodle soup is mixed and fixed, accompanied by the usual excellent kimchi banchan.
The women serving us were sufficiently concerned with our bibimbop technique that Jenny received a quick training course in appropriate technique.
The meal was far more than we could complete, better than its surroundings would suggest, and prepared and served with experience, kindness and patience. A fabulous flavorful feast.
