Walking “home” from the metro station, exhausted and hungry, with sore feet, grumbling bellies and kids emmanating that “I might lose it at any moment” vibe, we were rescued by the Mahabodhi Temple.

Disoriented by a maze of alleys we end up in a parking lot abutting the hundred-year-old temple. It was founded by zen monk Yong Sung, a prominent figure in Korea’s independence from Japan. He sounds almost like a modern, real-life version of a kung-fu movie hero.

Another classic travel moment when meandering near the vortex of lost leads you to an unexpected discovery, surrender breeds revelation. Sometimes you find your zen in unexpected places.
